Fort James in New York,” 1 November 1667. 2 pages (16 ½ x 12 ¾ inches, 420x325 mm). Text in the hand of and countersigned by Matthias Nicolls, red wax seal on the first page largely intact. Condition: Entirely separated at folds with losses, other separations repaired with tape at an early date, dampstaining. deed signed by the first british colonial governor of new york. [WITH:] Group of 7 other manuscripts relating to Flatlands and the original grants in this and the previous two lots, including 5 from the 17th century. Among this group is a document in Dutch dated October 1645 and the 1662 bill of sale from Couwenhoven to Elberts. Many of the documents concern a legal dispute concerning the exact boundaries of the initial grant to Couwenhoven.
