Neil Armstrong (1930-2012). Apollo 11 crew member and the first man to set foot on the moon (July 1969). Original program from the March 11, 1972, Conferment of the Freedom of the Burgh, held in Langholm, Scotland, in honor of Neil Armstrong, in recognition for his outstanding achievements in the exploration of space. Signed on the back cover in black ink by Armstrong. 6pp program, 5 x 8 in. In March of 1972, the Burgh of Langholm, ancestral home of the Armstrong Clan, conferred the Freedom Of The Burgh on Neil Alden Armstrong at a public ceremony, followed by a celebration lunch. It was one of only two functions attended by Armstrong in the United Kingdom during his visit and is the only Freedom ever conferred on anyone in the long history of the Burgh. The consignor and her family were invited to attend all of the events and during the celebration lunch, she asked for Armstrong's autograph, and he kindly signed the program of events. The signed program is accompanied by the consignor's personal invitation to the March 11, 1972 ceremony from the Town Council of the Bergh of Langholm as well as 3 newspaper articles from the local and national press regarding Armstrong's passing and his connection to Langholm. Condition: Program has a small tear that extends to the front page (lower left corner); small tea stain on the top left hand corner of the front page.
