NARES EXPEDITION – BRITISH PARLIAMENTARY PAPERS. A group of nine papers. London: George Edward Eyre and William Spottiswoode / Harrison & Sons / House of Commons, 1875-1878. The British Parliamentary Papers relating to the George Strong Nares Expedition, a complete run according to Arctic Bibliography plus two papers not recorded in Arctic Bibliography. In 1875-1876, Nares led the two-vessel British Arctic Expedition to the North Pole. Waters proved impassable for Alert and Discovery and an outbreak of scurvy resulted in several deaths, but the expedition collected a great deal of data, gathered here. The “Blue Books,” as the British Parliamentary Papers are known, are considered the most important primary source for Arctic studies.
