NAPOLEON I - AUTOGRAPHS]. A collection of over 100 documents and part documents signed by Napoleon I and members of his family, Napoleonic marshals, officials and dignitaries of the Directory and Empire, circa 1797-1811 , all damaged by scorching, including 18 documents signed (mostly in the margin) by Napoleon I ('Bonaparte', 'Napole', 'Np'), others by Joseph Bonaparte (2), Lucien Bonaparte, Elisa, Louis and Julie Bonaparte, Barras, Suchet, Moncey, Berthier (3), Salicete, Brune, Davout, Feltre (12), Merlin de Douai, Gouvion St. Cyr, and others, all on military or administrative matters, (a number addressed to the Duke of Feltre, Minister of War), altogether over 100 items, in ink on paper, 270 x 200mm and smaller (all margins affected by scorching, most with loss to headings and some text), mounted on leaves of two later red morocco albums by Charles Benoit, covers and spines with Napoleonic ornaments. Provenance : Collection de M. D'Hartoy (lettered on spines). The documents are said to have come from the Tuileries, and to have escaped destruction in the fire of 1871. (2)
