Beschreibung:

Arabic manuscript dictionary of rare legal terms, Al-Mughrib fi tartib al-mu'rib. [Probably Anatolia, Syria or Iraq]: dated A.H. 642 (1244/45 C.E.) 351 leaves recto and verso, 4to, 16 lines of brown nakshi script with principal words in red, shoulder notes and marginalia in red and brown, scribed by Mustafa bin Muhammad bin Yusuf (and at least one other). Modern brown calf wallet-style binding with earlier blind-embossed covers laid down. Custom quarter morocco clamshell box. Manuscript foliation incorrect, dampstain, repairs at ends with some loss, sold not subject to return. Al-Mutarrizi was the successor to Zamakhshari. He taught Hanafite jurisprudence and the dogmatics of the Mu'tazilite School. The present is one of his three principal works. The present manuscript appears to be an early copy of the work scribed only about 30 years after the author's death in 1213/14. Another copy of the work dated A.H. 607 (1210/11 C.E.) is in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin. (A.J. Arberry Handlist of the Arabic Manuscripts III:358). See also Brockelmann Geschichte der arabischen Litteratur G1, 294, S1, 515; and Huart History of Arabic Literature p 169.
