Photograph Signed ("F.W. Murnau"), 8 by 9 3/4 inch sepia-toned gelatin silver print by Autrey, inscribed in another hand in the lower margin: "To J.H. Huber. with personal best wishes from the 'Sunrise' company," center crease, few light spots in upper left, thumbtack holes and corner creases. Additionally signed by GEORGE O'BRIEN JANET GAYNOR, MARGARET LIVINGSTON, CHARLES ROSHER, and ROCHUS GLIESE. Very rare signed group photograph of Murnau along with the three stars of Sunrise, his first film in Hollywood, and the cinematographer and art director. Sunrise is routinely shortlisted as one of the finest and most important films ever made. It won Best Picture, Unique and Artistic Production and Best Cinematography and Best Actress (Gaynor) at the 1929 Academy Awards©. Murnau's innovations in this film included use of extended tracking shots and the first use of a fully synched sound track using the Movietone system. See illustration.
