Beschreibung:

An Important and Comprehensive Collection of the Artist's Work 1964-1987.
Comprised of over 250 individual pieces including original prints, books in limited edition of his best known work (such as his superb interpretations of Moby Dick, Lewis Carroll Frankenstein and Huckleberry Finn), most containing original and/or limited graphics, the collection seeks to present in depth the development of Moser’s woodblock artistry. The proof and working copies of many titles and a superb gathering of the artist’s more ephemeral works (event announcements, menus, illustrated envelopes, etc.) contribute interesting material often lost or very difficult to gather. The present collection can truly be said to represent the first two decades of this remarkable artists influential output remarkably well. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1940, Barry Moser began his early studies with Leonard Baskin and transformed his own work into the foremost examples of wood engraver’s art in the late 20th century. He joins Rockwell Kent and Lynd Ward as the most expressive and interpretativeof the modern woodcut artists. His work is represented in major institutions such as The National Gallery of Art, The Metropolitan Museum, The British Museum, The Pierpont Morgan Library, The Vatican Library, and Harvard, Yale and Dartmouth Universities. The collection is offered en bloc, a detailed list upon request. If the reserve is not met, it will be offered as a selection of lots.
