Communication from the Secretary of the Treasury to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, transmitting the report of Professor Morse, announcing the completion of the electro-magnetic telegraph between the cities of Washington and Baltimore. FIRST APPEARANCE OF THE FIRST OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION OF THE INVENTION OF THE TELEGRAPH. Just one year after Congress voted Morse $30,000 to construct the first experimental telegraph line from Washington to Baltimore. On 28 May 1844, Morse began the age of electronic communication with the message "What hath God wrought!", which he sent from the Capitol to his assistant James Vail in Baltimore. Norman 1553.
