(3 5/8 x 7 3/4 in.). Fine. A PROMISSORY NOTE FROM "THE FINANCIER OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION." A promissory note by which Morris, already in the financial difficulties which ultimately brought him to bankruptcy and debtor's prison, agrees to pay John Nicholson "or order" the sum of $3,500. in thirty months. On the verso is the note "Exhibited to us under the commission against Robert Morris ..6 August 1801." Boldly signed.
