A large scrap album containing documents, letters and pedigrees relating to the Morrell family of Oxford, circa 1760-1900, including manuscript pedigrees, vellum deeds, mostly legal and ecclesiastical, further legal documents and letters, including one autograph letter signed from William Blackstone (1723-1780), Wallingford, 27 December 1767, asking for some court rolls belonging to his employer the Earl of Abingdon, to be delivered to James Morrel, a second manuscript document signed by Blackstone appointing James Morrell to be his deputy to his position as steward to the Earl of Abingdon, dated 1768, a third document signed by the Earl of Abingdon appointing Morrell as his deputy, dated 1770, a coroner's report signed by Francis Morrell, a letter of attorney to receive rents, signed and sealed by both William Wildman, 2nd Viscount Barrington (1717-1793) and Daines Barrington (1727-1800), plus a quantity of mostly manuscript documents relating to Baker Morrell and the Oxford Loyal Volunteers, including receipts and other accounts including fines, inspections, etc., circa 1803-06, plus 7 pencil portraits of Morrell family members tipped in and 7 silhouettes of children, some ephemera loose but mostly tipped on to rectos, hinges broken and paper block loose in contemporary half calf with marbled boards, spine label titled in gilt 'Morrell. Papers & Pedigrees', rubbed, partly split on joints, folio (44 x 33 cm) An interesting and varied collection of documents and ephemera. Provenance: From the Morrell family, by family descent. (1)
