Engraved map on four sheets of the southern and central areas of New York State, contemporary hand-coloring in outline, image and sheet 1437 x 918 mm. The detailed map extending from Lake Champlain down the Hudson to Long Island, with insets of Lake Champlain and the White Hills of the upper Connecticut valley, scale bars in leagues and British miles, large compass rose (mounted on larger sheet, a few tears with minor loss). Framed. An attractive and important strategic map of the Hudson, drawn up by Captain Montresor before the Revolutionary War. One of the most detailed maps of the New York area, it served as an important British military plan of the region during the conflict. Schwartz and Ehrenberg Mapping of America pp.181-82.
