Miscellaneous Extracts chiefly poetical, selected from various authors; in order to facilitate the moral improvement of Youth: including many original poetical compositions never before published , Northampton: printed and sold by T. Dicey & Co, also sold by W. Birdsall and T. Burnham [and others], 1792. 12° (171 x 99mm). Tailpieces. (Last 2 gatherings spotted.) Contemporary tree calf, gilt floral border on sides, flat spine gilt in compartments with red morocco lettering-piece (lightly rubbed). Provenance : George Brereton ?Hici, February 1835 (signature on front endpaper). FIRST EDITION. Only 4 locations in ESTC (Cambridge University Library; Bodleian Library, Oxford; McMaster University Mills Memorial Library; Newberry Library, Chicago). TRIMMER, Sarah Kirby (1741-1810). A Selection from Mrs. Trimmer's Instructive Tales , London: F.C. and Rivington, 1815. 6 parts in one volume, small 12° (160 x 97mm). Each part with separate title. (Light soiling or browning, a few lower margins shaved touching the signature or occasionally the last line of text.) Contemporary calf (rubbed). Third edition. Osborne II, 743 only lists the 5th part of this collection. Emblems of Youth: or, Improvement and Entertainment conveyed in a pleasing collection of emblematical, hieroglyphical, and enigmatical devices relating to the various stations of life , London: Lackington, Allen, & Co., [?1800]. 12° (142 x 113mm). (Lacking frontispiece, title soiled and laid down, most plates lightly waterstained, stronger towards the end, last 5 leaves cropped, plates 21 & 22 bound-in upside down, lightly browned.) Modern calf. Only 3 locations in ESTC online (University of California; Bodleian Library; Huntington Library). With 14 similar works in 15 vols. including Dorothy Kilner's The Holiday Present; containing Anecdotes of Mr. and Mrs. Jennet (London, 1828), Dr. Gregory's A Father's Legacy to his Daughters (London, 1808 and another copy of the 1822 edition, finely-bound), Lord Chesterfield's Advice to his Son, on Men and Manners (London, 1835), E. A. Kendal's Parental Education; or, Domestic Lessons (London, 1803), and Hannah More's Sacred Dramas (Chiswick, 1827). (17)
