Minton Majolica Cobalt-Blue Ground Europe & Asia Portrait Pedestal Vase Date cypher for 1871 Impressed uppercase mark, four small cyphers, shape no. 1389 and black painted 7. Ovoid, the flaring rim molded with key-pattern, the front and back with female portrait heads symbolizing Europe and Asia set on a riveted strapwork surround, flanked by berried branches and fixed double ring handles, on a fluted socle foot. Height 13 1/4 inches. Note: One of a pair of garden pots, each representing two Continents. Individual allegorical medallions were also produced. As well as a vase with all four portraits.
