MILNE, ALAN ALEXANDER. Autograph letter signed ("A.A. Milne") to Philip A.G. Philips (a child), London, November 30, [1924]. 2 pp., 12mo, on Milne's printed letterhead, 11 Mallord Street, Chelsea with the "11" crossed out and with "13" placed over it ; [With:] Phillips, Philip A.G.. Autograph letter signed [a later holograph transcript of the original letter sent as a boy to Milne] to "Dear Mr. Hoo" [A. A. Milne], Christ Church, Oxford, November [1924]. 1 page, 8vo , with an envelope labelled by Phillips "Correspondence between Mr. Milne and myself concerning the identity of Christopher Robin," initialled "P." "I AM CHRISTOPHER ROBIN'S DADDY" Phillips had addressed a question to the author: "Dear Mr. Hoo, Uncle Josscelyn thinks you are Christopher Robin's Daddy, Jack and I Think you are his uncle 'cos daddies are not like you. So I went into the library and climbed up the book-case and took down 'Who's Hoo'. It was very heavy and did not say who. Uncle Joss promised me ten generals [toy soldiers?] if I was right, so please rite and tell me." On the reverse is Phillip's note of explanation (written as an adult): "This is a copy of a letter written to A.A. Milne in child's handwriting -- the accompanying is his answer." Milne's reply: "I like your name. I am going to call myself Hoo Hoos in future, and write a book all about myself, which you will find in the library next to Who's Who. I am Christopher Robin's Daddy. I am very glad about it, but very sorry about your ten generals, but if uncles are really nicer, then I think you will get them all right after all. Love from Hoo Hoos (sometimes known as A:A: Milne)."
