Milligan (Spike) Autograph letter signed ('Spike') to Alan Clare, saying "Am in Africa. Couldn't stand that idiot situation called London, so in exchange for a TV commercial, East-African Airways have given me a three we Safari round the Wild Game reserves in Kenya-Tanzania and Uganda. Having a baboon sit on the bonnet of your Land Rover looking at you thru the windscreen , and them him signalling the baboon pack to come up on the bonnet and look at you with him - and suddenly you realise you are the zoo! The haunting face of the waterbuck, great onyx eyes and ears that out Disney Disney. Birds of such myriad colours they put a paint box to shame. To stand twelve thousand-feet up in the N'gong mountains and see straight across 100 miles of the great Rift valley, the greatest geological fault in the world (apart from Finchley). I have seen the Maisai Tribesmen, tall, beautiful, dignified savages, living as they have since the beginning of time. They liked me because I had long hair, there's only one hang up. I'm going to the Merchison [sic] Falls, the start of the White Nile, then Serengeti, onto N'gorongoro, an extinct volcano whose vast 40 mile wide crater harbours some of the most concentrated wild game in Africa. At the hotel, the Ameri-fucking-cans are everywhere, can't stand 'em. I'm trying to record African music, but the Kikyo tribe are all chanting 'Hey Jude' and Elvis Presley L.P.s. Man, what the white race have to answer for , they ever have to rely on the Jews for a god (I think they pay cash). Tell you more when I see you, but! God what a magnificent country", two pages, creasing, some splitting along folding marks, wear and chipping to edges, 4to, Nairobi, 28 February 1970
