Autograph Letter Signed ("J.F. Millet") 1 ½ pp recto and verso, 8vo (conjoined blank), Barbizon, October 1862, to Madame Fenardent[?], a little show through. Millet writes a long note to complain about the oysters Madame Fenardent provided him. Millet became ill; the ones that were not spoiled were difficult to open and the whole lot was ruined. He maintains a friendly if somewhat caustic tone to the end of this letter. The letter dates from the period when Millet finally obtained significant critical approbation. In 1867 he showed the Gleaners, Angelus, and Potato Planters at the Exposition Universelle. See illustration.
