Military Tarock of Emperor Franz Josef, Deck I, 1854, Vienna, Josef Glanz, 54 of 54 cards, stencil-colored steel engravings, ace of hearts contains Austrian monarchic tax stamp, 10 kreuzer (valid 1850-1857), duty office number 61 for Vienna, and the name GLANZ JOSEPH WIEN 1854. Designed by J. Surch as evidenced at lower left of trump XV. Trumps are full-length figures, double-ended Roman numbers, and captions identify officers or describe military scenes. This is the first version of four Military Tarock decks featuring Emperor Franz Josef I at different periods in his life.
