This also meant the end of the MG-badged Metro and Metro Turbo models, both of which had won many friends since their introduction in 1982. Back then the arrival of the MG Metro marked the return of the famous octagon badge two years after the MGB's demise. Power output of the Metro's 1.3-litre A-Series engine was increased from 62 to 72bhp for the MG version - good enough for a top speed of 100mph. Improvements to the running gear in the form of modified suspension and alloy wheels helped keep the increased performance in check. Introduced for 1983, the Turbo came with a Lotus-developed engine producing 93bhp, which was good enough for a top speed of 110mph (177km/h). When production ceased, over 140,000 MG Metros had been made, making the model one of the most popular MG saloons ever. Although 29,610 MG Metro Turbos were produced, relatively few survive, with only 32 registered in the UK in 2017. This left-hand drive example was delivered new to Strasbourg, France where it enjoyed only one registered keeper prior to being imported into the UK in September 2017. We are advised by the vendor that the paintwork and panels are '90% original', and that the car is in generally very good original condition. Accompanying paperwork consists of a Heritage Certificate, UK V5C registration document, and a valid MoT certificate.
