Provenance : Stargardt, 28 October 1955, catalogue 524, lot 372. 'Haben sie Lust Morgen die erste Vorstellung einer neuen Oper von Scribe u. Auber in der großen Oper zu hören? Und wollen Sie uns in diesem Falle die Freude machen ein Platz in der Loge meiner Mutter anzunehmen? ' The opera in question was Auber's Le philtre , with a libretto by Eugène Scribe. Scribe's other notable collaboration that year was with Meyerbeer himself, on Robert le Diable , which was to open five months later, bringing Meyerbeer instant fame.
