MEDIEVAL PEWTER HOLY WATER VESSEL 15th-16th century AD A pewter vessel formed as a D-shaped pot and lid with circular pedestal; the lid with central punched rose motif within concentric circles, the outer rim with embossed pellets; at the rear of the pot a cast plaque in the form of Mary dressed as a Tudor lady with flowing robes holding the baby Jesus in her left hand, dressed as a crowned infant in a full robe; apex lost in antiquity. 155 grams, 16cm (6 1/4"). Extremely fine condition. Provenance From an important collection of Christian artefacts formed in the 1970s and 1980s, the property of a City Gentleman; found on the Thames foreshore near the Tower of London.
