G. Wozencroft, Gren. Gds), Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902/three clasps - Cape Colony, Transvaal, South Africa 1902 (4969 Corpl. G. Wozencroft, Grenadier Guards), Territorial Force War Medal Trio* (487 W.O.Cl.2. G. Wozencroft, 4/Hamps.R.), Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896-1908/clasp Khartoum (Pte. G. Wozencroft, Grenadier Guards) George Wozencroft served with the Lancaster Militia before enlisting in the Grenadier Guards in September 1894, with whom he fought the Dervishes alongside the 21st Lancers in the British Army's last cavalry charge at Omdurman, Sudan, September 2nd, 1898. N.B. The Victory Medal is unofficially named, but for unknown reasons, his medal index card does not show an entitlement to this medal, despite confirming his BWM and TWFM. When this was queried with the Ministry of Defence in March and June 1985, they confirmed this was correct, but did not explain why (see original MoD correspondence enclosed, where all other medals and clasps are confirmed by copied medal rolls and medal index cards) Provenance: Spinks, Lot 53, November 21st, 2013
