Medals for Services at Sea from the Collection of the Late Oliver Stirling Lee Pair: Able Seaman C. Price, Royal Navy Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (C. Price, Boy 1 Cl., H.M.S. Inconstant); Khedive’s Star 1882, the first with contact wear and edge bruising, good fine, the second rather better, rare (2) £400-500 Footnote Carter Price was born at Hoxton, Middlesex in December 1864 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in October 1880. Subsequently present in the Egypt operations of 1882, as a young rating aboard H.M.S. Inconstant, he returned to the same theatre of war as an Able Seaman aboard the Monarch in 1885, when he was detached for service in the Nile Flotilla and participated in the Abu Klea operations, thus becoming one of just 61 men of the Royal Navy to qualifiy for the appropriate clasp. Price, who otherwise experienced something of a chequered career, was pensioned ashore in November 1892.
