MAUND, Benjamin (1790-1864) & John Stevens HENSLOW (1796-1861). The Botanist; containing accurately coloured figures, of tender and hardy ornamental plants. London, Edinburgh, etc: R. Groombridge, W. White & Co. and others, [1836-1842]. 5 volumes, 4° (220 x 175mm). Engraved additional titles, 249 hand-coloured engraved plates only (of 250), description for plate 177 misnumbered 175.(Lacking plate 75 and its descriptive leaf of letterpress text, additional titles spotted or browned, appreciable spotting to three plates, numbers 37 and 162 misbound.) Contemporary green half morocco gilt (spines lightly rubbed). FIRST EDITION. The artists employed include Barne, Miss E. Bury, J.S.Henslow, Miss S.Maund, Mills, Miss Mintern, Miss Nicholson, Linnaeus Pope, Miss Taylor and Miss Withers. Stafleu & Cowan 5713; Nissen BBI 2224. (5)
