Beschreibung:

The Charter Granted by Their Majesties King William and Queen Mary, to the Inhabitants of the Province of the Massachusetts-Bay in New-England [issued with] Acts and Laws of His Majesty's Province of the Massachusetts-Bay in New-England .
Boston: Samuel Kneeland and Timothy Green, 1742. Folio (11 ½ x 7 inches, 290x180 mm). Contemporary calf. Condition: Some foxing, staining to the blank leaves in the rear, terminal text leaf with an area of paper loss in the bottom margin; rebacked and recased. Provenance : Joseph Parker, 1699-1756 (contemporary inscription on the front free endpaper, “This law boock [sic] was given me by the province of Massachusetts Bay in New England when I represented the town of Falmouth at the Great and General Court in the Province.”) bound with five separately-printed session laws , covering the period from 26 May 1742 through 8 February 1744. Boston: Kneeland and Green, 1743-1744. The original owner of this book of the laws of the colony, Joseph Parker, was a representative of Falmouth to the House from 1741-43 and is listed by John A. Schutz in Legislators of the Massachusetts General Court 1691-1780 (1997). However, he does not seem to have made much use of the volume, as according to Schutz, he served on no committees and was fined for non-attendance! An early compilation of the colonial laws of Massachusetts Bay with provenance to one of the lawmakers. Evans 5002.
