The Charter Granted by Their Majesties King William and Queen Mary, to the Inhabitants of the Province of the Massachusetts-Bay in New-England. [Issued with:] Acts and Laws of His Majesty's Province of the Massachusetts-Bay in New-England.
Boston: B. Green, 1726. Folio (11 ½ x 8 inches, 290x200 mm). Contemporary calf. Condition: Foxing, staining affecting a few leaves likely from cuttings laid in with some resulting minor paper losses, lacks the front free endpaper; binding worn, some areas of loss. Provenance : Thomas Macy (inscription on the front free endpaper, “The Town law book…in the year of 1730/31”; Walter Folger (signature on the front free endpaper); other 19th century Swain family ownership inscriptions on the title. an early american printing of the charter and laws of massachusetts bay with provenance to the town of nantucket. The Thomas Macy inscription on the front free endpaper likely refers to Thomas Macy 1687-1759, the grandson of Thomas Macy 1608-1682, one of the founding settlers of Nantucket. This is the fifth printing of the colonial charter which was first granted in 1691, but is one of the earliest obtainable, as those of 1692, 1699, 1714 and 1719 are quite scarce. Evans 2762.
