Date: 1916 Description: Gelatin silver photograph (possibly a vintage or early copy photograph not printed from the negative). Captioned and with photographer's imprint in the negative. 16.5x21.5 cm (6½x8½"). Photograph capturing the celebratory nature of boom times in Oatman following the discovery the previous year of a $10 million vein of gold, which brought one of the desert country's last gold rushes. The boom of 1915-17 gave Oatman all the characters and characteristics of any gold rush boom town. For about a decade, the mines of Oatman were among the large gold producers in the West. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight silvering in the emulsion, a flaw in the negative at right side; paper residue on verso from earlier mounting; very good. Item number: 274269
