Numéro Inventaire : 1951. 438, 1951 - 2003 - Collection Merton Simpson - Collection privée Ce très ancien masque Dan présente une très savante complexité architecturale dans l'agencement des différents volumes de son visage anthropo-zoomorphe. Sa patine épaisse et profonde témoigne de sa grande ancienneté. Dans un ouvrage de 1947 du Peabody Museum, Tribes of the Liberian Hinterland, un masque apparenté, mais aux plans moins marqués, est décrit comme étant un masque juge, chargé de régler les conflits (the dog - a forager for the Poro).
