MARTIN JENNINGS FRSS, (BRITISH B. 1957) A VERDIS-GRIS PATINATED BRONZE PORTRAIT BUST OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH, THE QUEEN MOTHER DATED 2000 The Queen naturalistically modelled wearing the Greville tiara, earrings, and necklace above her flowing robes held in place by a brooch Being a second cast of the bust held in the OBE Chapel in the cathedral crypt at St. Paul's Cathedral Inscribed and dated verso 62cm high A bronze bust of HM Queen Mother was commissioned in 1998 by the Friends of St Paul's Cathedral, of which she was Patron, to mark her upcoming 100th birthday. Seven sittings took place at her home, Clarence House, over the course of the ensuing year. The sculpture was modelled in plaster for ease of transport. Between sessions it required extra work in the Oxford studio without the sitter. The bronze bust was unveiled by HRH Princess Royal on 8th July 2000 at a special ceremony in front of a large congregation and is now on permanent display in the OBE Chapel in the cathedral crypt. The resulting portrait sculpture, and this second cast, were the last to be made of her from life. The models display the Queen Mother's resolute good humour as she approached her centenary. Jennings has recently been commissioned by the Royal Mint for the portrait of HM King Charles III on the new coinage and stamps
