.36 caliber. 7.5" round barrel. SN: 2439. Blued and color casehardened finish, brass backstrap and triggerguard. Single action percussion revolver with 6-shot round cylinder. Barrel with one line New York address reading ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Lower left of frame with two-line COLT'S / PATENT. Cylinder with strong naval engagement roll scene. Matching serial numbers throughout. Revolver is accompanied by a Colt Factory Letter confirming the the revolver was shipped to the Washington Arsenal on October 14, 1861 in a shipment of 100 Model 1861 Navy Revolvers for the use of the US Ordnance Department. Martial Colt 1861 Navy revolvers are quite scarce. Although this one does not bear any inspection marks it is confirmed as a US military purchase by the factory letter. A very nice example of a rare Civil War martial revolver. Condition: Fine. Retains some nice blue in protected areas on the barrel, mixing with plum. Frame with some traces of case color, fading and oxidizing to brown with hints of mottle color. Markings clear and legible. Mechanically functional, very good bore with strong rifling is mostly bright with some oxidation and frosting. Grip about very good with an internal glue repair to the central block, but a repair that is in no way visible. Grip with matching serial number. Wood show scattered bumps, dings and marks with some minor chipping to the leading and trailing edge.
