MARKOVITCH, EMILE. 1894-1981.Group of photographs of European Royalty and other personalities. Gelatin silver prints, most printed with filters and signed in pencil, some captioned, various image sizes, 300 x 240 mm and smaller. Included portrait subjects are Prince Louis of Monaco, Princess Charlotte of Monaco, Princess Marina of Greece (3 images), Pierre de Fouquières (signed), Edouard Herriot, Anatole de Monzie (2 images, one inscribed), an image of the Moulin de Galette, smaller images of a young Prince Phillip of Greece (2), the Duchess of Kent (2), a series of press photos of a U.N. summit in Caracas, and others. Marcovitch recorded many of the personalities of the Russian émigré community in Paris in the 1930s, including the Romanovs, as well as artists such as American transplant Sergei Rachmaninoff. Many of his portraits are printed with filters that give the impression of being charcoal drawings.
