MARILYN MONROE EVENING GOWN WORN TO THE PREMIERE OF "THE ROSE TATTOO" 1955 An evening gown that Marilyn Monroe wore to the New York City film premiere of "The Rose Tattoo" in December 1955 when Marlon Brando was her date. Made of black silk crepe, this floor-length dress has a v-neckline, spaghetti straps and a small train in the back and was likely handmade by a studio wardrobe department as telltale weights are sewn into the hem. A number of photographs exist of MM attired in this dress from that night including shots of her with Brando, Jayne Mansfield (possibly the only time the two blonde bombshells were photographed together) and the Rostens, her close New York friends. Additionally, newsreel footage was taken that night showing MM as she walked into the premiere. Marilyn also wore this elegant dress on a later occasion when Cecil Beaton took a series of photographs of her. Included are photocopied images of MM in this dress plus a videocassette of the old newsreel footage showing her at "The Rose Tattoo" premiere.
