MARIAN ELLIS ROWAN (1848-1922) Seventy-eight brightly-coloured moths, in five columns, mostly belonging to the families NOCTUIDAE and ARCTIIDAE (tiger ths). The noctuids include a beautiful Agarista (34,35) signed 'Ellis Rowan'; watercolour with bodycolour on grey paper 22 x 15in. (55.8 x 38.1cm.) Ninety moths, in five or six columns, belonging to a variety of families including the NOCTUIDAE. The plate is dominated by four noctuids, Erebus (36,37) and what is probably a species of Parallelia (38,39) signed 'Ellis Rowan'; watercolour with bodycolour on grey paper 22.1/8 x 15in. (56.2 x 38.1cm.) Twenty-four moths, in three columns, belonging to the family NOCTUIDAE (e.g. 3-9, 19-24), the SATURNIIDAE (silk moths, 10-15, 17,18), and the HEPIALIDAE (1,2). Most of the noctuids are examples of the fruit-piercing Othreis and related "yellow underwing" genera, such as Eudocima and Khadira all signed 'Ellis Rowan'; watercolour with bodycolour on green paper 22.1/8 x 15in.
