Title: Map of Oregon, Washington and Part of British Columbia Author: Mitchell, S. Augustus Place: Philadelphia Publisher: Date: 1860 Description: Lithogarphed map, hand-colored. 27x34 cm. (10½x13½") including decorative border; matted. Significant transitional map of the evolving Pacific Northwest. In 1859, Oregon became a state and in the process Washington Territory gained land from Oregon that eventually became Idaho and part of Montana. This map clearly shows the Oregon Trail ("Emigrant Route to the States") and the Emigrant Wagon Road to California. The entire eastern half of Oregon is unorganized with Klamath, Curry and Wasgoren (likely Wasco) Counties being the furthest east. The eastern part of the state is labeled as unexplored. (Klamath County was not organized until 1882, so its appearance here is a mystery.) Lot Amendments Condition: A little toning to paper, very good. Item number: 225304
