Manuscript Guest Book for the Castello Bar in Mondsee, Austria, with hundreds of autographs of actors, authors, musicians, singers, dancers, race car drivers, and others Author: Place: Mondsee, Austria Publisher: Date: 1952-1988 Description: Unpaginated, with about 100 or more leaves. Entries from 1952 are on smaller paper pasted to the larger album leaves, evidently added from an earlier guest book; there are no entries for 1953-1957; entries from 1958 to 1988 are on both sides of the larger album leaves. 34x25.5 cm (13¼x10"), full red leather on which are mounted three large brass or brass/silver armorial calling card holders. Marvelous guest book for the Castello Bar in a town in the Vöcklabruck district in the Austrian state of Upper Austria located on the shore of the lake Mondsee. The castle complex, now converted into an upscale hotel, is home to Austria’s oldest Benedictine Monastery, whose cloister church was used for the site of the wedding in The Sound of Music. The Castello Bar was a popular gathering place for conductors, musicians, directors, designers, actors, singers and dancers working in opera, theatre, and dance performing at Salzburg Festival, the Salzburg State Theater, etc. It also attracted auto racers due to its proximity to Salzburgring, as well as artists, government officials, and tourists. Run by the elegant and charming Countess Micheline Almeida (1911-2000), guests who signed the book include Greta Garbo Henry Miller Yves Saint Laurent (with sketches), Clark Gable, Wolfgang Hutter (with original artwork), and the entire cast and various associates of The Sound of Music. Hundreds of autographs have yet to be identified, but there is a strong concentration of musical, opera and ballet performers, due to the proximity of the Castello Bar to Salzburg, but also artists, politicians, dignitaries, race car drivers, film stars and others. This includes a couple of bars of music for "The Hills are Alive" from the movie "The Sound of Music" and the signatures of Director Robert Wise, Actors Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews (and other production personnel), dated April, and again May 1964. Contains hundreds of autographs and inscriptions, drawings, etc., many of which are identified to be of: Franz Josef II, Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989), Tony Curtis Winifred Wagner, Leontyne Price, Robert Stolz (1880-1975), Brooke Astor, Gene Tunney, Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker, Natalie Wood (1938-1981), Jack Lemmon, Keenan Wynn (1916-1986), Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Walter Legge; W.
