The document reads in part, "Received...the sum of two thousand pounds...for enquiring into detecting and defeating all conspiracies which may be formed in this State against the Liberties of America..." Among those employed to investigate conspiracies was Egbert Benson (1746-1833), the first Attorney General of New York. Lot Amendments Condition: Some yellowing at folds; very good.
