Title: Manuscript deed of sale for two slaves to William Bibb, for the use and benefit of Harriet M. Goodwin and her children Author: Taylor, William H. Place: Montgomery County, Alabama Publisher: Date: February 14, 1845 Description: Two pages on 4-page conjugate sheet, docketed on 4th page. In ink. 31x20.5 cm (12"). William Taylor sells, for the nominal amount of $1, "as well as the natural love and affection which I entertain for Harriett M. Goodwin and her children," the "following described negroes, to wit Bob a boy about twenty years old and Jerry a boy about the same age. To have and to hold all the right, title, and interest of whatever kind... In trust however... to the sole use and benefit of the said Harriet M. Goodwin and her children..." Provenance: Descended in the Tyler-Goodwyn family. Added to the lot are two additional ink manuscript documents: A deed of sale from Edward F. Goodwyn to William J. Bibb for "a negro woman (a slave) named Serena" for the sum of $500, Half page, in ink, worn with a few repairs, loss at center affecting 4 or 5 words. Jan. 1, 1842. A financial agreement between James Davis Stewart and Albert E. Goodwyn for payment of an obligation of some $17,750, dating from three years earlier, likely relating to the sale of slaves. One plus pp. on 4-page counjugate. 1840. Lot Amendments Condition: Overall very good. Item number: 308833
