Manufacturer: A.R. Valentine Artist: Albert Valentine Description: Rare Cincinnati Limoges style vase with bright blue flowers on a polychromed ground, the work of Albert Valentien in 1880. The question of the day is this: we know Albert Valentien decorated the vase but is this an example of Coultry Pottery or Wheatley Pottery? ARV was teaching Limoges style decoration for Coultry around this time but by early 1880 he was working for Wheatley. We think perhaps Coultry is the answer because the vase is signed A.R. Valentine the spelling of his last name used in Rettig-Valentine ads while at Coultry. Regardless, it is an important and early example of Cincinnati Limoges and the only one from this period (1880) signed by Valentine that we have seen. Height 10 inches. Fine overall crazing but excellent condition.
