Manner of Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) Portrait of Sir Robert Peel full length standing wearing a black coat bears inscription on the reverse, 'Sir Rob Peel Bart' oil on canvas 80 x 51cm Provenance: The portrait was originally owned by Mr Albert Henry Weale; a photographer based at 23 Victoria Road, Tamworth in the 1920s. It then passed by family descent to the present owner. Mr Weale worked as a photographer for the Peel Estate at Drayton Manor and painting may well have been gifted to him in lieu of payment in the late 1920s when the estate was been broken up and sold. This lot also includes a copy of the book 'Sir Robert Peel' by Justin Maccarthy.
