Late 18th-century English diced russia gilt. Provenance : pointing hands and other marginal figures drawn by an early reader; Sir George Shuckburgh (armorial bookplate). Fifth edition, the first emendated by Dulcinius, of this important Augustan didactic poem on astrology. The early editions were based on a collation of a manuscript written for Poggio (Madrid 3678) with codex Marcianus Lat. XII. 69 (in turn derived from L, Brussels 10699). In later centuries the poem was edited by three of the greatest latinists, Scaliger, Bentley and Housman, from these and other manuscripts.
