Most photographs are 3¼x5¼ or a bit larger, plus the last 6 photographs are panoramic, measuring 3½x11¾ or slightly larger. Manila Carnival, Feb 1908 in ink on inside front cover. An outstanding collection of original photographs taken in what appears to have been a celebration of the Western companies operating in the Philippines. This album documents both the street floats and the boat floats that paraded in the harbor as well the various booths and exhibits on the Carnival grounds. The street parade floats include ones for Walkover Shoes, German Club, “King of the Orient,” Bear Brand Milk, Anderson Cement Co., Castle Bros. Wolf & Sons Importers, Clark’s Mayon Coffee, Germinal Cigar Factory, Albany Hemp & Coat, and Libby, McNeill & Libby [the food packager, with a giant catsup bottle],. Exhibits show include: Dance of the Moros, Laguna Building, and the Japanese Tea Garden. And great shots of the fantastic and strange boat floats…. a pelican, a whale, a lobster, an oil company’s barge with a giant clown on top. The panoramic views include three scenes in the active harbor, a view from the outside of the Hippodrome, and then a view the “Stage of the Hippodrome (with a massive painted back-drop for some pageant production).
