MALLARMÉ, Stéphane. L'Après-midi d'un Faune, [The Hague: J. B. W. Editions], 1935 [but 1972], 4°, one of 25 copies of the second series lettered A - Y, of a limited edition of 50 copies, this copy lettered D and dated 1972 in pencil, 4 collotype plates by John Buckland Wright and 5 extra "experimental engravings" in separate folder, original white sheepskin by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, gilt-stamped design after Buckland Wright on upper cover, t.e.g., slipcase. [Reid A73] Reid states: "The title-page is dated 1935. J. B. W. himself had these 50 sets of sheets (French text only) printed by Mouton & Co. at The Hague in 1936, intending to illustrate them with copper engravings for his third J. B. W. Edition. As engravings were never made from his final drawings, this posthumous volume is accompanied by a suite of early experimental engravings in different styles ... Only 25 copies were actually bound and issued." This copy appears to have been issued later than this first series of 25 copies (which was numbered I to XXV and issued in 1956), probably, as the pencil date on the colophon would suggest, in 1972. Included in the folder of extra engravings is a 2pp. printed note on the John Buckland Wright Edition of L'Après-midi d'un Faune by Mary Buckland Wright.
