MAJOR, George. Vitae Patrum, in usum ministorum verbi. Cum praefatione M. Lutheri , Wittenberg [per Vitum Creutzer], 1562, 8°, portrait of Luther on title, historiated woodcut initials (title with some old ink stains, two bibliographical references in biro on front pastedown), contemporary blind-stamped pigskin, with front panel depicting the Baptism of Christ, and back panel showing the crucifixion, both panels surrounded by smaller figures of the church fathers (rather soiled, back cover with old repair, clasps lacking) [Adams M226] Provenance : Paulus Rodolphus, 1670 (title inscription and initials incised on front cover); Fr. Jul. Zaner, Gedani, 1825 (inscription on front pastedown) -- Missae in agenda defunctorum , Venice: apud Nicolaum Pezzana, 1752, 4°, printed in red and black, engraved title vignette, one full page woodcut illustration of the crucifixion, woodcut initials (some marginal soiling), contemporary black morocco decorated in gilt and blind, both covers with small, centrally-placed figure of a skeleton and a gilt skull-and-crossbones within each corner of single gilt-fillet panel (front cover slightly damaged, extremities worn).
