Many of Ferguson's books were sold after his death but "an important section...dealing with alchemy, the history of chemistry, pharmacy, witchcraft, gipsies, spas, water-divining, conjuring, cookery, the secrets of the toilet, colours and tobacco...was purchased by the Unversity of Glasgow..." Preface. Due to paper rationing during the war only 40 copies were issued, to be distributed to libraries; no copy has appeared at auction in the last 35 years. This copy includes the supplement which has never been reprinted.
