Magnifique et rare statue Thaïlandaise en bronze à patine foncée D'une grande rareté, elle représente un Bouddha assis en train de méditer (dhyana mudra). Dans le style Ayutthaya. Sur un socle. Quelques restaurations anciennes. La flamme sur la tête de la statue est manquante. Ayutthaya fut la capitale de l'état du Sud de Thaïlande du même nom de 1350 à 1767. Malgré une influence très nette du style U-Thong sur cette statue, on distingue également de fortes influences d'un autre courant: celui du royaume du nord de la Thaïlande de Sukhothai (qui fut incorporé en 1438 par l'état Ayutthaya). Les traits du visage (plutôt arrondis que carrés), la flamme, le châle plié avec son bout en queue de poisson atteignant le nombril sont tous des caractéristiques typiques du style Sukhothai qui diffèrent légèrement du style pur d'Ayutthaya. In the early Ayutthaya period the so-called U Thong B and C style were dominant. The U Thong C style which influenced the figure of this Buddha shows a strong stylistic influence of the North Central Thai Kingdom of Sukhothai (which was fully incorporated in 1438 in the Ayutthaya State): the features of the face (though more oval than square), the flame, the folded shawl with its fish-tail end extending to the navel come from Sukhothai and are slightly different from the fully developed Ayutthaya style.
