"This edition ranks among the octavo Variorum Classics, as the best of its author. Two valuable manuscripts (on the Somnium Scipionis ) were consulted, and the entire notes of Pontanus and Meursius are a rich harvest of illustration in addition of those of its distinguished editor" (Dibdin.) The work also contains several woodcuts including a simple version of Macrobius' world map which was the basis of world geography until exploration would prove differently.
