LUCRETIUS CARO, Titus (?96-55 B.C). Della natura delle cose libri sei , translated from the Latin by Alessandro Marchetti, Amsterdam [i.e. Paris]: a spese dell'editore, 1754. 2 volumes, 8° (224 x 145mm.), 2 engraved frontispieces and titles by Lemire after Eisen, 6 engraved plates after Cochin and Le Lorrain, 7 headpieces after Cochin and Eisen and 5 tailpieces after Cochin, Eisen and Vassé (occasional light spotting, stronger to a few leaves), contemporary French red morocco gilt, sides decorated with a wide dentelle border of gilt fleurons, flat spine, each compartment with floral central motif and foliate cornerpieces, two brown morocco lettering-pieces, gilt edges (gilt on spine of vol. Handsomely printed on large paper with headpieces, and tailpieces by leading artists, it is encountered more often in contemporary bindings of decorated morocco ... than almost any other work of the time" (Ray). Brunet III, 1222; Cohen-de-Ricci 665-66; Ray French 9. (2)
