Bruce was flown there from San Francisco after he fell [or jumped] from the second floor of a North Beach hotel, fracturing a small bone near his hip joint. “It’s a good thing I came to see you Friday cause they busted Off Broadway Friday noon. … Fucking police cocksuckers… Lenny I love you and everything and what more can I write, except that I am yours with Love Forever…XX-OO” We have been unable to identify Mendez -- but she feels lucky to have been visiting Bruce when the nightclub was busted so she may have been one of the dancers at the Club and using a stage name; she omits her own address and provides Bruce with that of her mother and sister, neither of whom have surname Mendez. And, Bruce felt this letter significant enough to hold onto. Lynn has graced her closing with two lipstick kisses.
