Louis XV Gilt-Bronze Mounted Marquetry Inlaid Kingwood Regulateur Tall Case Clock The case Balthazar Lieutaud and the dial and movement signed Henry Voisine, mid 18th century The silvered dial with black Roman numerals within a conforming elongated and slightly bombe case decorated with scrolling leafage mounts and inlaid with musical instruments amidst overall floral sprays, resting on a conforming base, stamped B. Lieutaud. Balthazar Lieutaud maitre 1749; Henry Voisine, maitre 1755. Height 7 feet 11 inches (2.41 m). Provenance: Maurice Segoura, Paris. Literature: Pierre Kjellberg, Encyclopedie de la Pendule Francaise: du Moyen Age au XXe Siecle, circa 1997, illus. p. 159. Tardy, La Pendule Francaise, vol. 1, 1949, p. 199. Lieutaud, known for his clock cases, began his career using Rococo forms and elements; however, the majority of his work are adorned with motifs typical of the Louis XVI period. Another regulateur featuring nearly identical gilt-bronze mounts and a similar case was executed by Francois Duhamel (maitre 1750), now in the Musee des Arts et Metiers (illus. Tardy, p. 199, fig. 8). Lieutaud and Duhamel worked together in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine on clock cases, sometimes using both of their stamps on the same piece.
