Lottery 1695-1838, the fascinating group of items relating to the English and Irish State Lotteries, including English with 1695 Lottery Warrant, an unused or proof impression in red on wove paper, 1770-1815 Lottery tickets (6, all different), 1803 and 1809 advertising handbills (the second printed in three colours), 1817 printed letter from the State Lottery Office at Cornhill to an unlucky ticket holder; Irish with 1781 ticket, 1799 ticket with the original entire letter which contained it (bought in Edinburgh); also an 1838 entire letter from the Lottery in Lubeck (originally enclosing tickets) to a well known judge in Ireland - a most interesting example of evading legal restrictions by gambling outside the country (lotteries were prohibited here after 1826); mostly good to fine with many of the items being attractively printed or engraved
