Beschreibung:

Lot consists of: (A) 1840 cavalry saber with 35 - 1/2" gently curving blade with partial double fuller running for approximately 3/4 of the length of the blade. Left side of ricasso marked "Horstmann / Phila". Right side with Solingen maker's mark. Traditional three branch guard, single strand of braided brass wire, and leather grip. Plain scabbard with two hangers and "X X III" on outside lip of drag. Throat marked "VII". CONDITION: Very good. Blade does not appear to have been repolished with crosspolish still visible and blade bright with some minor scattered areas of old inactive oxidation. Scabbard is a deep even brown patina with some door pinches at the drag and flashes of steel, primarily in protected areas and one large area at the drag. (B) 1840 Mounted Artillery Saber with 32" deeply curved blade with single fuller running for nearly the entire length of the blade. Right side of ricasso marked "US / S.K.", left side with "N.P. Ames / Cabotville / 1847". Standard brass D guard with single braid of brass wire and leather grip. Pommel with "R.C." and "J.W.B." inspector marks. Correctly style scabbard sans throat to sit in recessed crossguard fits sword with some effort. CONDITION: Good. Blade is an mixture of bright steel and old inactive oxidation with some nicks to blade and spine. Guard is good with marks from handling and use. Leather wrap and wire is good with a few cracks.
